FAQs: Adult Day Care
What is it?
Adult Day Care involves the daily care of adults (of any age) who
need full-time supervision due to having been disabled by illness,
disease, injury, or old age.
Do the Centers provide transportation?
Many do offer transportation for participants
to and from their centers each day. However, if transportation is an
issue, you will want to verify that it is available.
Are there day programs that specialize in certain
disabilities?
Yes there are. Be sure to inquire if a center has
any restrictions on the type of participants they are set up to
handle.
What are the standard services offered?
It is hard to say. Each center is free to establish
the features of their program. Most do include at least one hot meal,
group activities, arts and crafts, assistance with personal grooming,
supervision of medications, and opportunities to build social skills.
They offer a safe, secure, and friendly environment. Emphasis is
placed on each participant having the best possible day!
Which program is better?
It depends on the needs of the participant. Seniors
generally prefer a Senior Day Care facility because they are among
other seniors exclusively. Although, if an Adult Day Care center
specializes in a particular disability, it may be a better choice
for a senior with that affliction.
